Ottolenghi

Refurbished Urbo kitchen featuring handleless white lacquered cabinetry, stainless steel worktops, walnut interiors and a hand-painted tiled splashback by Cecilie Barstad of Gilles & Cecilie Studio.

North London

After living with his Roundhouse kitchen for more than 13 years, Yotam Ottolenghi returned to Roundhouse when refurbishing his home, preserving the functionality and simplicity that had served him so well for over a decade while introducing new layers of personality and performance.

The kitchen centres around a calm palette of white lacquered cabinetry, walnut interiors and the original layout that has served his family well for more than a decade. The stainless-steel worktops, a favourite in professional kitchens, were chosen for their durability, practicality and ability to develop character over time. Together, the materials create a timeless backdrop that allows colourful ingredients, artwork and personal objects to take centre stage, much like the walls of an art gallery. The kitchen was also updated with a new suite of Gaggenau appliances, combining the familiarity of a well-loved space with the performance of modern technology.

The most personal addition is the hand-painted tiled splashback, created by artist Cecilie Barstad of Gilles & Cecilie Studio. Inspired by family life, favourite foods and shared memories, the artwork brings individuality and warmth to the space while complementing the simplicity of the surrounding cabinetry.

A humble yet generous kitchen, designed around the needs of one of the world’s most celebrated chefs and the everyday rituals of family life. It demonstrates how thoughtful design, durable materials and carefully considered functionality can elevate daily living and continue to evolve long after installation.
