A grand design
Sometimes a project comes along that absolutely knocks your socks off and this fabulous conversion of an 18th century barn in Surrey, home to a family with two young children was one of them. The couple had been looking for a house that was ready to move in to but when they saw the barn they completely fell in love with it and all their plans went out of the window. An architect was brought on board and major work ensued, including their fabulous Roundhouse bespoke kitchen.
They didn’t want to interfere with the large open space and so there was no room for wall or tall cabinets, which influenced how the kitchen was designed – a bespoke solution was the best option and Roundhouse designer Paul Welburn stepped up to the plate. The island and the run of low-level units are very long in order to accommodate all the storage required but different worksurfaces prevented these long runs from looking too clinical. For the long worktop under the windows composite stone was used and on the main food prep surface stainless steel was chosen. The beautiful oak columns had to be retained and so Corian was chosen for the surface around them, because it can be cut and several pieces can be joined and polished out providing a beautiful seamless finish.
