Interview with Cameron Design House

Cameron Design House

To celebrate the launch of our Fulham showroom we interviewed Ian Cameron Director of Cameron Design House. We partnered with Cameron Design House for the bespoke kitchen lighting in our Fulham showroom with the Haara light.

Can you tell us a bit about Cameron Design House?

Cameron Design House is a bespoke sculptural lighting studio based in St John’s Wood. Founded in 2014, the company has since grown to a team of over thirty, designing and manufacturing statement chandeliers for projects around the world. All of our designs are bespoke and customisable in terms of sizing, finish and configuration before being handmade to order in our London workshops.

What are the first key things to consider when thinking about how lighting could enhance kitchen design?

Lighting is a powerful tool to bring a space together, especially when it comes to an open plan kitchen living area. Having a statement chandelier as the focal point between an open kitchen dining room can be really effective.

What types of lighting do I need in my kitchen to make it stylish as well as practical?

Consider the levels of lighting you need in the working kitchen areas and use a mix of architectural lighting and decorative pendants to achieve the desired effect. Make sure you consider the drop height, with a kitchen being such a dynamic space with people sitting and walking around, it’s important for the chandelier to be hanging at the correct height.

What styles of kitchen lighting are on trend right now?

Sculptural kitchen lighting is very on trend. Our Haara pendant, made from hand-drawn glass and a branching brass body, makes the perfect statement in a contemporary kitchen space. Our collection of sculptural chandeliers are designed to look beautiful whether they are on or off, like a piece of art.

Are there specific colours and materials in lighting that are particularly on trend right now?

Whether it be polished, brushed or burnished – brass is a very popular finish at the moment. The warm tones of the brass add a cosy feel to a space. Glass is another material which is really interesting, at the moment we are exploring combining brass and glass together to see how the different materials interact with one another.

How can I use lighting to create a luxurious look in my kitchen?

Choose a statement piece that compliments the design language of your kitchen design. Specify the chandelier in a finish that brings the surrounding tones in the space together.
