A Comprehensive Guide To Buying A Bespoke Kitchen

Read our Guide to Buying A Bespoke Kitchen if you want a beautiful kitchen that is designed specifically for you. We’ll show you where to begin. Made to measure kitchens are designed around your lifestyle, so if you’re planning a new luxury kitchen scheme look no further. We’ve asked our kitchen designers for their top tips to get you started.
Make a must-have list
Are there things you just can’t live without? It helps to list your priorities, for example; if you are a keen cook you might want acres of prep space or you may want it to be entirely clutter-free so lots of kitchen storage space will be critical. Are there specific upscale kitchen appliances that you must have, or maybe you have a desire for a particular work surface?
Think about the whole space
If you have an extension being built or walls demolished to create a large open space, by talking to kitchen designers early on, your unique kitchen can be designed as an integral part of that space rather than as an afterthought. Think about how you will use the space; for example will it be more than just a cook’s kitchen where food is prepared, but a social space for family and a place to entertain?
Gather your inspiration.
Collect as much reference material as you can, from a variety of sources, such as magazines, Instagram or Pinterest or from the gallery on our website.
Focus on the latest kitchens that really inspire you – the more reference material you can amass, the easier it will be for our kitchen designers to really understand what it is you like. Images of the best kitchens you can find, worksurfaces, splashbacks/tiles, islands, layouts, colours, materials such as veneers, concrete or brass etc., all are really helpful.Have a budget in mind
Have a plan of how much you want to spend – by being frank about this upfront your kitchen designer will be able to help you choose what you should invest in and where you may be able to save. For example having extra wide bi-fold doors can help save on cabinetry costs and some types of cabinetry and veneers are more expensive than others, and the same goes for kitchen work surfaces and of course appliances.
Speak to a kitchen designer early on in the process
The process of designing a bespoke kitchen is all about consultation and collaboration. Here, at Roundhouse we’re open, down-to-earth people who’ll work closely with you (and with your architect or interior designer if you have one) to ensure the overall plan, and every specification and detail are spot-on. By getting to understand your needs, your designer will come up with creative ideas you may not even have considered. Our custom-made kitchen designers are experts, with years of knowledge of not only creating high quality kitchens but also of the latest appliances, fixtures and fittings and innovations in finishes.
What about the build?
Our contemporary kitchens are built by skilled craftsmen and have a practically limitless choice of materials, colours, fittings and styles. They are totally adaptable, and although standard sized cabinetry can be supplied, pretty much any bespoke size is available, extra wide or extra shallow, for taller or shorter people, extra tall/short – almost any non–standard size.
Nailing the nitty gritty
Every bespoke kitchen company has it’s own procedure, at Roundhouse once you had your initial chat with a designer, we’ll ask you to bring in your measurements and/or drawings, if you’re working with an architect. Based on our consultations with you we’ll produce a kitchen design, which may be tweaked and changed until you are absolutely happy with it. Once you’ve committed to the project and paid a deposit we’ll allocate build time in our factory. We will make any changes you require and you’ll get a pack with detailed technical drawings and a final price and delivery date.
Delivery & Installation
Again each bespoke kitchen company has it’s own process so make sure you know what it is. At Roundhouse, each project has a dedicated installation specialist who oversees our in-house installation team and all aspects of the final build to ensure that your kitchen takes shape exactly as intended. They will co-ordinate with your builders. Your new, modern kitchen will be delivered, wrapped and protected, by our own delivery team. The base cabinets will be fitted first followed by the templating of worktops prior to the final install. A Roundhouse bespoke kitchen is made in Britain and built to last and you should get many years of enjoyment from it.
