Ways to create individuality in your kitchen design.

The joy of a bespoke kitchen is the opportunity to choose a design that is perfectly suited to your individual style and room. From a fabulous collection of contemporary ceramics or antique plates to a group of flourishing plants or a cluster of colourful glassware – whatever it is, there are ideal solutions for displaying favourite pieces. ‘Many clients prefer an open shelf to a wall unit and not just because it can create a more open feel in the room – but also because it makes a great way to showcase carefully selected items and create individuality,’ says Allison Lynch, Senior Design Consultant. The kitchen shelving itself can be stone, timber or painted – there are many ways to create a luxury kitchen design to suit the space.

A glazed display cabinet can be a contemporary addition to a custom kitchen, serving both attractive display and practical storage purposes. ‘We have moved on from the traditional dresser, but we still like to see and enjoy special pieces, whether it’s our favourite china or an heirloom punch bowl,’ says Allison.  Fronted with sleek glass doors, it can be a clean-lined furniture piece, especially if it is recessed into a niche for an unobtrusive look, as shown here.

The choice of handles can make a significant difference to the look of your bespoke kitchen design, accenting its individual style in just the same way that jewellery can finish off an outfit. The brass finish and beautiful knurled detailing on these bar handles create textural interest, adding individual appeal to smooth matt lacquered cupboard doors.

Just as there are plenty of handles to choose from, so there is a vast selection of pendant kitchen lighting ideas, from contemporary to classic designs, in glass, metal, porcelain and a host of other materials, colours and shapes. ‘Pendant lights can be used to as an expression of your style – making a great feature above an island and boosting its impact as the focal point of a kitchen design,’ explains Allison.

The elements chosen for a bespoke kitchen can be customised to suit, from special bottle racks to show off a wine collection, a bespoke baking station for equipment and ingredients, a breakfast cupboard with coffee machine and toaster all ready for the morning rush, or a custom desk area tucked behind pocket doors.

Colour can be a useful way to add individuality to any modern kitchen designs, whether the choice is a soothing palette of modern neutrals or deeper colours to add impact. A combination of paint colours and materials can be used – be they tone on tone or contrasting – to add depth to the scheme, creating layers of interest to enhance your kitchen’s appeal and personality.

How do I add personality to my kitchen?

There are plenty of ways to introduce individuality to modern kitchen designs, from adding bespoke kitchen features to creating personal displays. Choose a striking worktop material and cabinet colour, look for beautiful handles and introduce individuality with paintings and ceramics.
