Roundhouse is synonymous with good design and we love to find products that work seamlessly with our bespoke kitchens. One such company we’ve worked with for some time is New Zealand appliance manufacturer, Fisher & Paykel. Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer dishwasher in top NZ Chef Peter Gordon's (first of three!) Roundhouse bespoke kitchens Recently a group of 45 invitees from all corners of the world, including our own Kiwi Robyn Gifford, were invited to the 2013 Fisher & Paykel International Conference, held in Auckland, New Zealand. Attendees were met with a traditional Maori welcome ceremony at the Auckland factory where the French door refrigerators that are so popular in many Roundhouse bespoke kitchens are manufactured - 100% NZ combined with the best of British! A fusion that UK resident, Peter Gordon, renowned Kiwi chef patron of Providores and a number of other award winning reataurants in London and New Zealand and proud owner of a new Roundhouse bespoke kitchen, knows all about. Peter's new kitchen is the third Roundhouse kitchen he's had; we can ask for no higher recommendation! Roundhouse have been fans of Fisher & Paykel for years and its not just because the Sales Manager Robyn is a Kiwi! We love the innovative, design-led products - the DishDrawer Dishwasher and Cool Drawer Refrigerators are unique and beautifully integrate with our Urbo kitchens. The Cool Drawer is the perfect place to store opened jars,...

Things were buzzing down Farringdon way as Clerkenwell Design Week (CDW) comes to a close today. On three ‘industrial chic’ floors of former Victorian glass works, the Farmiloe Building, plenty of gorgeous furniture and lighting was on display to inspire the most avid design groupie. Our friends at Deadgood and Pinch both showed some lovely pieces (see pictures). Wood, wood and more wood, the majority of the furniture on display was in natural wood, much of it harking back to the modular feel of late 1950’s early 1960’s furniture. Formica made an appearance on a table surface (it probably wasn’t Formica but it sure looked like it) and in the depths of the atmospheric House of Detention we spotted some interesting concrete furniture and rather beautiful tables with filigree surfaces. CDW is not only a source of inspiration and a place to keep a finger on the design pulse of London but is always a great place to spot emerging talent.  Clerkenwell Design Week has yielded us plenty of food for thought and who knows you may see some of the pieces in our Wigmore Street showroom soon…watch this space… ...

Finding a kitchen that has a timeless appeal and that will be as fun to be in ten years hence as it is now, or a kitchen that will adapt to your physical space and way of living in it  can sometimes feel a little daunting. Two kitchens we recently completed demonstrate the flexibility of our bespoke kitchens, and how the same design can look completely different in two diverse locations. One is in a compact apartment converted from an old warehouse in Shoreditch, London, while the other is in a rambling old ex-vicarage in a tiny village in Surrey. The smaller scale urban warehouse conversion packs a lot into a relatively compact space  and retains an urban vibe, through the juxtaposition of discreet contemporary cabinetry against exposed brickwork. The country house kitchen is a beautifully proportioned room with an island in mango wood veneer that perfectly suits its understated style.  Both kitchens are from our Urbo handleless range in a matt lacquer finish and provide a great example of just how adaptable Urbo can be. So, whether you are an urban-lover used to London’s compact spaces or a country dweller with plenty of room to spread out, there is a Roundhouse bespoke kitchen with your name on it! ...

Fifteen lucky members of the Roundhouse team were invited to Aveqia in Farringdon, London, courtesy of our friend Susie Robinson at Siemens appliances, to experience a fine dining masterclass. Aveqia is all about connecting thorough gastronomy and the Roundhouse team certainly bonded over some of the complex sauces they made. We were really pleased to be able to cook using Siemens appliances, as we sell them all the time. The Aveqia venue is beautifully designed and the kitchen immaculately laid out - which chimes with the Roundhouse ethos of functionality and good design - we felt quite at home! Head chef, Daniel and assistant head chef Julia, divided the team into four groups to prepare a meal to be eaten at the end of the evening. The four course meal included a starter of carpaccio of beef, a fish course of sea bass and white asparagus with a barley salad, pan fried lamb with goats cheese and potato croquettes, scallions and green beans in herb butter and a dessert of rhubarb sorbet, rhubarb and raspberries. Each course was accompanied by a specially chosen wine, introduced by Daniel  and we think the photos show what a good job we made of cooking the meal - and an even better one of eating it! ...

Roundhouse is a rather like an extended family; our architects and designers are based in our London showrooms and Guildford and Cheltenham and the expert cabinetmakers who build our beautiful bespoke kitchens are based in our own factory in Malvern. The skills our craftsmen employ there bridge the gap between centuries-old traditions of workmanship and the latest technical innovations. They are the ones who make the connection between hand and machine, combining their unique joinery skills with state-of-the-art manufacturing techniques. Having our own factory means that we can ensure that all our made to measure kitchens are of the highest quality and that we can offer an almost limitless choice of materials, colours, fittings and styles. It also enables us to choose only those woods that meet the highest standards of FSC accreditation and we have a tree-planting scheme in place. We believe that the Roundhouse approach gives our clients a flexibility not found elsewhere and it means that that our designers have a unique understanding of what can be achieved to create the perfect bespoke kitchen. Made in Britain, built to last. ...
