Great Opportunity to Study Kitchen Design AND Join Roundhouse

Roundhouse are looking for someone to sponsor through the NEW part-time, three year, foundation course in Kitchen Design which will be starting at Bucks New University this September. We will pay the course fees for an exceptional candidate to study part-time for the three years, whilst also employing him or her part-time, in a salaried position.
The course, the first of its kind, will train talented people specifically for the kitchen industry. It is being supported by key players in the industry. Blum, Sensio and AFG are some of the companies who will also be sponsoring students through the course, whilst Miele, BSH, Mereway Kitchens and Hettich and others are offering student bursaries to pay for fees.
The kitchen industry is continuously expanding, and becoming more complex and more professional. Roundhouse believes that we should invest in the future by helping to train bright people to the high levels of expertise that we expect in our company.
The Kitchen Design course will be part of the School of Design, Craft and Visual Arts, located in High Wycombe, the heart of the furniture industry. The school has existing successful courses in Interior and Spatial Design, Product Design, Furniture Restoration, Wood Carving and Wood Machining.
The curriculum will cover design, materials, products and projects, providing an opportunity to increase knowledge of the industry and in how to undertake design projects. It will be supported by a visual and material culture module, in years one and two which will educate students to analyse design decisions, critique trends and understand clients’ wishes.
The final year will be dedicated to a single project, which will be a real situation identified with the help and support of tutors and industry partners. This will require contextual research, understanding constraints on design, project planning and building regulations, and will also mean that students can use their developed design abilities to the full, determining what kind of designer they wish to become on graduating, positioning themselves in exactly the place they wish to be for their future career.
The college will expect students to relate knowledge gained through the course to their working environment, so that they both learn from and develop their existing roles. They will be expected to complete weekly learning tasks and contribute to the course as a whole.
Applicants for Roundhouse sponsorship should be bright, pro-active, enthusiastic team-players, with education to ‘A’ level and a strong interest in design.
