Modern white kitchens – the ultimate timeless style
If you’ve been wondering how to achieve the ultimate white kitchen, you are not alone. White kitchens remain highly sought after, and their appeal hasn’t wavered in all the years we have been making Roundhouse bespoke kitchens. One of the core advantages of a white kitchen is its power to make spaces feel larger and more open. White is also associated with cleanliness, which is always reassuring, and it’s versatile, too. As a neutral, white plays nicely with every colour of the rainbow (and RAL charts).
But the main reason our design experts love creating beautiful white kitchens? It has to be their undeniable timelessness. A well-made, thoughtfully designed white kitchen will never look old or outdated. This kind of eco-friendly design, crafted to endure rather than require constant updates as trends shift, is exactly what we should all prioritise.
However, it’s worth noting that not all white kitchens are made equal. Without due care, they can appear cold, sterile or just plain boring. Balancing with textures, contrasting colours or different finishes is critical for achieving depth and interest. To help you master the art of white kitchens, we’ve curated some of our favourite Studio Collection projects showcasing white kitchen cabinets, each demonstrating how a simple white kitchen can be transformed into something truly special.
Introduce texture
Texture is the top tool professional designers use to enliven a flat, white scheme and there are so many great ways texture can unleash the beauty in white kitchens. In our Reynolds project, the texture is artfully layered – on the concrete raised breakfast bar, solid oak worktops and the wood beams overhead. Even the antiqued mirror splashback has visual texture, despite being perfectly smooth. Note how the floor-to-ceiling white cabinets recede into the background, effectively boosting the sense of space. The resulting look is airy, calm, and clean.
Celebrate contrasts
For a softer take on black and white kitchen colour palettes, consider combining crisp white quartz countertops with on-trend Indigo blue cabinetry, as seen in our Sands kitchen. This sophisticated monochrome pairing embraces white in its purest form, with white quartz countertops and splashbacks, as well as white walls. The outsized veining on these standout surfaces provides a decorative touch and lends an understated luxury to the room. Switching from light to dark below eye-level adds some high-contrast drama, without diluting white’s light-boosting brightness overall.
Break it up
White kitchens featuring floor-to-ceiling cabinetry maximise storage space and create a seamless, unified look that’s bright and open. However, it’s important to break things up a little to stop a white kitchen feeling stark or clinical. One popular approach is to introduce open shelving or glass-fronted cabinets to provide visual variety and allow curated displays of ceramics, recipe books and accessories to introduce colour and texture. In our Chapman kitchen, a sleek single-row wine rack and integrated wine cooling unit elegantly break up the expanse of white cabinetry, adding style and function without compromising storage space.
Go for grey
For a final touch of sophistication and a modern refresh, consider a grey and white kitchen. In our Winterbourne project, this elegant look was achieved using Cashmere Grey cabinets and worktops in Silestone Eternal Statuario white quartz. The two-tone effect feels balanced and calm, while the matt lacquered finish on the cabinets offers a more refined alternative to white gloss kitchen designs. Thanks to the subtle shift in tones and considered use of finishes, this white kitchen is far from boring.
Are white kitchens still in style?
Yes, white kitchens are absolutely in style – and are likely to remain a top kitchen trend for as long as people want to cook and live in bright, uplifting spaces. It’s important to acknowledge that white on white kitchens have evolved thanks to more sophisticated design approaches. By layering in warmth and character using natural materials, striking worktops and colourful accessories, modern white kitchens are more interesting and versatile than ever before.
