Freestanding kitchen furniture ideas to elevate your space

Love the idea of a freestanding kitchen, but not sure how to make it work? Roundhouse bespoke kitchens can help. Our design team are experts at crafting built in storage cupboards to maximise space. But we also understand how a freestanding kitchen element – say a dresser, larder or kitchen table – can elevate your luxury kitchen design into something truly special. Introducing just one or two standalone design features will inject a luxe, artisanal mood into beautiful bespoke kitchens, big or small.

Read on and discover our freestanding kitchen ideas for a relaxed and inviting mood.

Pair a kitchen island with low-level storage

Kitchen islands create a freestanding silhouette that’s so popular in our Roundhouse projects. And while still fitted to the floor, bespoke kitchen islands are a wonderful way to harness an unfitted style. They can also be tailored to your lifestyle with bar stools, extra storage or a second sink for example. Why not take the freestanding kitchen concept up a notch, and pair a kitchen island with low-level storage cupboards. In this project, the sink wet zone has been designed to look almost like a freestanding kitchen cabinet. Then, by colour drenching the floor-to-ceiling fitted units in the same shade as the walls, the entire storage wall almost disappears. The result? An easy-breezy relaxed mood with a classic, unfitted style.

Choose a freestanding dresser

Introducing a freestanding kitchen cabinet can do so much with very little effort. So if you have the space – or simply a spare wall – you can’t go wrong with one of our gorgeous dressers. Our classic, mirror-backed Nightingale and modern Brompton dressers are kitchen cabinets that make a serious style statement. Use your dresser to break up a row of built-in cabinetry and display your favourite glassware. Dressers are perfect too for storing recipe books, crockery and vases. Our bespoke joinery skills mean we can customise any piece with drawers, lighting and your choice of materials. Book a design consultation with a Roundhouse expert today.

Introduce a kitchen table

There’s nothing like a kitchen table with chairs if you want your luxury kitchen room to be a sociable hotspot. A freestanding kitchen table creates a comfortable place to gather, where friends and family can eat, drink and hang out. Even if you have a kitchen island, a separate kitchen table with chairs is a key dining idea – and don’t forget they’re portable pieces and can move home with you. We love the mix of built in seating on one side of the kitchen table, with chairs on the other. It’s stylish, space-saving and practical – especially if you opt for a built in bench with a lift up seat for extra storage underneath.

Fit in a pantry cabinet

Pantry cabinets are a storage workhorse for every style of bespoke kitchen. Yes, it’s hard to ignore the charm of a freestanding larder cupboard packed full of all your favourite ingredients. But we know that fitting in freestanding kitchen features can sometimes be a challenge. Do you have enough space? Is there room to open double doors in a narrow kitchen design? Our expert team at Roundhouse have a solution for every planning dilemma. We can position a fitted pantry cabinet at the end of a long run of units to create the illusion of a freestanding piece. And if there isn’t clearance for a two-door pantry cabinet, we can easily switch to clever pocket doors that slide back invisibly into recesses. Clever, eh?
